Volunteering is a time honored way to build experience while also providing some kind of community service. Experience gained as a volunteer is just as applicable to your overall resume even though you may not have been paid for that service. Sometimes, because of a lack of experience, experiences in specific fields may be hard to come by and volunteering is a way to gain some of that required experience. Volunteer work can sometimes get you enough experience to open new doors of opportunities for your future.
At ECIE, we do not have the necessary funds to be able to pay for experienced staff at this time. We hope that this situation changes in the future, but until then, we can use the services of a few volunteers. While at the present we cannot afford to pay you, we can certainly provide you with a challenging opportunity.
Some of the kinds of volunteers we need are:
Web page designers/programmers
If you know something about designing web pages and know PHP, Java, MySQL, etc. we can probably use your help. We especially need people who are bi-lingual or whose predominant language is Spanish.
If you are a community organizer or have the skills to become one, we can really use your help. Bi-lingual or primarily Spanish speaking people are most welcome.
If you are a teacher or trainer who would like to work in training the Hispanic community to improve their skills, we could use your help.
If you are a writer or an editor, especially one whose primary language is Spanish, we could use your help in developing content and material directed toward the Hispanic community.
If you can translate between English and Spanish, we could use your service to help us in translating content found on English only websites.
If you are interested in volunteering for any of these kinds of tasks, please come by our office to talk to us. We are especially interested in young and dynamic Latino people who currently face many obstacles in gaining valuable work experience. We may be able to give them a chance to a better future with the experience that we could offer them.
